Overview of the Dynamic Template Builder

Written by Sandra McCarthy
Updated this week

Use the Dynamic Template Builder to design and arrange your report columns (Actual, Budget, Variance, multi‑period groups, business unit groups, and more).

Tip: 💡 Column layout is built in the Dynamic Template Builder — row layout comes from your Account Tree

Report rows are controlled separately using an Account Tree. If you want to combine or merge Business Units into the row structure, open Report Criteria → Row Data → Account Tree → Advanced Settings and configure your Business Unit options there.

Navigate to Reports > Builder > Dynamic Templates

Select an existing template from the screen or +CREATE TEMPLATE and then select once it has been added.

From the Report Builder screen click EDIT TEMPLATE to build your report.

The Template will be populated with the Chart of Accounts Column, as selected in the Create Template settings. This column cannot be removed, however the template column order can be changed if required.

Choose the type of column you wish to add from the four options, then click

NEXT STEP:

  • Single column - single column of data

  • Group by Date Range - groups multiple columns with the same date range

  • Repeating Multi-Period - create multi-period reports such as months or quarters with groups of columns repeating by each period

  • Multi-Column Business unit - compares Business Unit results with groups of columns for each business unit

Arrange the Columns

Reposition the columns by clicking on the ::: at the top of the Column, the cursor should change to a hand symbol, you can then just drag and drop the columns into the required order.

To delete a Column, select the column by clicking in the heading area, and then once the column is highlighted, you can click REMOVE, then SAVE before exiting the Column editor screen.

Report Header

As a default the Report Header contains the

Report Title - Organisation Name

Followed by the Sub Header which by default contains the date range for the report.

Click the Pencil in the Header section of the report to open the Header settings.

Run Report

Once you have added your required columns and completed the settings, and clicked SAVE you can click > RUN REPORT

This will take you out of the Edit Template Screen and back to the Report Builder, where you can fine tune by editing the Report Criteria in the left settings panel.

The top part of the panel is similar to the Preconfigured Template settings, with some additional options in the Display Settings section.
