Dynamic Template: Multi-Column Business Unit or Organisation

Dynamic Template where you can compare your Business Units or Organisations by columns

The Multi‑Column Business Unit or Organisation column let you create a set of columns that automatically repeat for each selected organisation or business unit.

Use this when you want a comparison‑style layout, for example, showing each organisation side by side along with a consolidated total. The organisations included are controlled by the Report Criteria settings.

To get started, open your Dynamic Template and click Edit Template.

Multi-Column Business Unit or Organisation

In the Dynamic Template Builder, click + ADD COLUMN, select the Multi-column business unit or organisation option, and continue with NEXT STEP.

Next, choose Actual or Budget to define the first column in the group, then click ADD COLUMN.

Add additional columns into the group

Make sure the group (or any column within it) is selected in the builder, then click
+ ADD COLUMN.

From the drop down, choose the Column Type required and ADD COLUMN

Continue to add columns to your group in this way as required, providing a column in the group is still selected, the new Column will be automatically added to the SAME group.

TIP 💡To add a new top‑level column or group, make sure no existing group is selected. If a group is highlighted, simply click it again to deselect, or select another top-level single column such as the Account column.

Multi-column business unit or organisation criteria

Select the column Group header in the builder to set the group criteria on the right.

Note 💬 The 🔁 icon and the number 6 show how many business units are included in the current criteria. This means the group will repeat six times — once for each business unit in the final report.

Column headings

Group header

By default, the Group header displays the Business Unit Name placeholder. You can type directly into the cell to use your own wording, with or without the dynamic placeholder.

Because this heading will repeat across business units in the generated report, the information panel below shows a preview of every Group header that will be created, based on your current selection.

Business Units

The Business Units criteria determines how this group will repeat. The recommended option is to leave Link to report criteria selected, allowing the standard Report Criteria to control which organisations or business units generate repeating columns.

Alternatively, you can apply an override here to lock in a specific organisation, consolidated group, or business unit selection for this group. This is useful when you need two or more separate repeating groups within the same template.

Column data

This section lists the columns in the group. You can reorder them by dragging the ⋮⋮ handle or add additional columns using the + ADD COLUMN button. These actions are also available in the main builder column view, but this panel gives you a focused view of the group’s contents.

Appearance

Note 💬 The appearance settings for Primary and Secondary colour are not available in a Multi-Column Business Unit or Organisation group. Instead, Calxa applies the same logic used in preconfigured reports: group headers are shaded with the Secondary colour when they represent a consolidated value (a total of the other business‑unit columns).

Settings for individual columns

To configure the criteria for an individual column, select the column beneath the group header so it highlights. Then work through the available settings. For detailed guidance, refer to the help notes for each column type:
